Target intelligence / Profile preview
CD4-positive effector memory T cells (CD4+ Tem) are a specialized subset of memory T lymphocytes characterized by the expression of CD4 and the ability to rapidly respond to previously encountered antigens in peripheral tissues. They play a crucial role in orchestrating adaptive immunity through cytokine secretion and interactions with other immune cells. Unlike central memory cells, they lack lymph node homing receptors and reside primarily in nonlymphoid tissues, enabling them to provide immediate protection at sites of reinfection. While essential for protective immunity, dysregulation of CD4+ Tem can contribute to immunopathology.
