Overview

CD4 T-cells, also known as helper T cells or CD4+ T lymphocytes, are a critical subset of white blood cells that play a central role in the adaptive immune system. They are defined by the expression of the surface glycoprotein CD4 and function primarily to coordinate immune responses by activating and directing other immune cells. They are essential for effective immunity but can be targeted or dysregulated in disease, notably HIV/AIDS and autoimmune disorders.
