Overview
CD40 ligand (CD40L), also known as CD154, TNFSF5, TRAP, and gp39, is a type II transmembrane glycoprotein belonging to the tumor necrosis factor (TNF) superfamily. The mature human protein consists of a 22 amino acid cytoplasmic domain, a transmembrane segment, and an approximately 215 amino acid extracellular region. The extracellular domain is responsible for binding to its receptor CD40 and mediating downstream signaling. Critical costimulatory molecule in immune responses.
