CD5 protein (CD5)

Target
CD5
Molecular classification
Transmembrane glycoprotein, Scavenger receptor superfamily
01

Overview

CD5 is a transmembrane glycoprotein and a member of the scavenger receptor superfamily. It is predominantly expressed on T cells and a subset of B cells and functions as a key regulator of immune responses. CD5 primarily acts by modulating signaling through the T cell receptor (TCR) and B cell receptor (BCR), generally inhibiting their activation. It's involved in thymocyte selection, peripheral tolerance, and differentiation of T helper cell subsets. As such, it represents a potential therapeutic target for immune-related diseases.
