CD55 antigen, also known as Decay-Accelerating Factor (DAF), is a glycosylphosphatidylinositol (GPI)-anchored membrane protein that plays a critical role in regulating the complement system on cell surfaces. It inhibits the formation of C4b2a and C3bBb convertases, thereby preventing the assembly of membrane attack complexes and protecting host cells from complement-mediated lysis. It is widely expressed on blood cells and various tissues and is implicated in tumor biology and pathogen interactions.
