CD94

Target
CD94
Molecular classification
Type II transmembrane glycoprotein, C-type lectin-like receptor
01

Overview

CD94 is a C-type lectin transmembrane glycoprotein predominantly expressed on the surface of natural killer (NK) cells and a subset of CD8+ T lymphocytes. It forms heterodimers with members of the NKG2 family (NKG2A, NKG2C, and NKG2E), resulting in either inhibitory or activating receptor complexes. The primary ligand is HLA-E, a nonclassical MHC class I molecule. CD94/NKG2 receptor complexes regulate NK cell cytotoxicity by delivering either activating or inhibitory signals depending on their composition, playing roles in maintaining self-tolerance and contributing to immune responses against virally infected or tumorigenic cells.

Safety considerations

Potential for off-target effects due to broad expression on NK cells and CD8+ T cellsComplex signaling pathways involving activating and inhibitory signals require careful modulationPotential for autoimmunity if self-tolerance mechanisms are disrupted
