CD95 Antigen (CD95)

Target
CD95
Molecular classification
Receptor, Type I transmembrane glycoprotein, Tumor Necrosis Factor Receptor superfamily
01

Overview

CD95 (Fas/APO-1/TNFRSF6) is a type I transmembrane glycoprotein and a member of the tumor necrosis factor receptor superfamily. It plays a crucial role in apoptosis, immune regulation, and cancer biology. Upon binding to its ligand, CD95L, it initiates programmed cell death through the recruitment of caspase-8. While primarily known for its pro-apoptotic function, CD95 can also influence cell proliferation and immune responses. Its expression is widespread, particularly in immune cells and various tissues. Dysregulation of CD95 signaling is implicated in autoimmunity, lymphoproliferative disorders, and cancer. Loss or mutation of CD95 correlates with more aggressive tumor phenotypes.
