CD95 Ligand (CD95L)

Target
CD95L
Molecular classification
Type II transmembrane protein, Tumor necrosis factor (TNF) superfamily member
01

Overview

CD95L is a type II transmembrane protein belonging to the TNF superfamily. It exists in both membrane-bound and soluble forms. The membrane-bound form, a homotrimer, induces apoptosis in target cells expressing CD95. The soluble form, generated by proteolytic cleavage, is less potent in inducing apoptosis but can modulate immune responses. CD95L plays roles in immune homeostasis, immune privilege, and inflammation. In cancer, it can promote tumor progression via enhanced migration and invasion.
