CD99 molecule pseudogene 1 (CD99P1, also referred to as MIC2R or CD99L1) is a processed pseudogene located in the pseudoautosomal region of the human X and Y chromosomes[3]. It is related to the CD99 gene (also called MIC2), which encodes a cell surface glycoprotein with known roles in cell adhesion, migration, apoptosis, immune regulation, and cancer biology[1][2][3]. The CD99P1 gene itself does not appear to encode a functional protein and has no well-characterized biological function or disease involvement[3]. Transcripts from the *MIC2R* locus (another synonym for CD99P1) are detected in multiple human tissues, but none have been shown to produce a functional open reading frame[3]. Unlike protein-coding genes, there is no evidence that CD99P1 acts as a canonical receptor, enzyme, transporter, or therapeutic target. Its classification is "pseudogene," signifying a non-functional genomic element derived from a parent gene. CD99P1 (CD99 molecule pseudogene 1) should not be confused with CD99 (the protein-coding gene and molecule), which is a multifunctional cell surface protein implicated in cell adhesion, migration, apoptosis, and a variety of disease contexts, especially in cancer and immune regulation[1][2][3][4].
