Overview
CDC2-like kinase 2 (CLK2) is a dual-specificity protein kinase that phosphorylates both serine/threonine and tyrosine residues. It is a key regulator of alternative pre-mRNA splicing through phosphorylation of serine/arginine-rich (SR) proteins. CLK2 is involved in cell cycle regulation, neural development, and has been implicated in various diseases, including cancer, neurodegenerative disorders, and muscular dystrophy. Several small molecule inhibitors have been developed targeting CLKs, with some in clinical investigation for various conditions.
