Overview

CKS1BP1 (CDC28 protein kinase regulatory subunit 1B pseudogene 1) is classified as a pseudogene in Homo sapiens. It bears high sequence similarity to the protein-coding gene CKS1B, a regulator involved in cell cycle control, but CKS1BP1 itself does not produce a functional protein[1][4][5]. Pseudogenes such as CKS1BP1 typically arise from duplication or retrotransposition events and may lack open reading frames or regulatory elements necessary for protein expression. The biological significance of CKS1BP1, if any, has not been described in the literature, and it does not currently have any known or validated function as a regulatory RNA, nor is it considered a direct target for therapeutic intervention[1][4][5][6]. Past assumptions held many pseudogenes to be "junk DNA," but some pseudogenes in other families have been shown to have regulatory roles at the RNA level; there is no evidence for such a role for CKS1BP1 specifically[6].\n\nImportant distinction:\nCKS1BP1 should not be confused with CKS1B, which is a protein-coding gene implicated in cell cycle regulation, cancer, and is the subject of active biomedical research for its role in tumor biology and as a potential prognostic biomarker[3]. CKS1BP1, as a pseudogene, does not share these functional roles.\n\nIn summary, CKS1BP1 is not a canonical therapeutic target and is considered incorrect as an entry for molecules of pharmaceutical or biological relevance.
