While pseudogenes were once considered "junk DNA," increasing evidence indicates that many—such as CKS1BP7—can play regulatory roles in gene expression. CKS1BP7 appears upregulated in some breast cancer tissues, where it may enhance cell proliferation by interacting with genes like IGF1R. Nevertheless, it does not encode a functional protein, and there are no current drugs that directly target this pseudogene. Its utility has been explored in cancer diagnostics as a molecular biomarker, particularly through DNA or RNA profiling in tumors[2][5][8][9].
