CDC42 antisense RNA 1 (CDC42-AS1)

Target
CDC42-AS1
Molecular classification
Long non-coding RNA, Antisense RNA, Other (non-protein-coding RNA)
01

Overview

CDC42 antisense RNA 1 (CDC42-AS1) is a long non-coding RNA gene located on human chromosome 1 which is transcribed antisense to the CDC42 gene. It does not code for a protein but is functionally relevant as it may regulate the expression of CDC42, a member of the Rho GTPase family involved in cell cycle control, migration, and actin cytoskeletal organization. CDC42-AS1 has been implicated in malignancy, modulating processes such as cell proliferation and migration, and its dysregulation is associated with cancer progression, particularly in bladder and other tumor types

02

Mechanism of action

Not applicable; as a lncRNA, it likely acts by modulating transcriptional or post-transcriptional regulation of CDC42 and other genes rather than via classical drug-like interactions

03

Biological functions

Regulation of gene expression (acts as an antisense transcript to CDC42)Modulation of cell proliferation, migration, and invasion (implicated in cancer biology)Potential role in tumor progression and metastasis
04

Disease associations

Cancer (notably in bladder cancer and possibly other malignancies by regulating CDC42 and related pathways)
05

Safety considerations

Not established; as no drugs directly target CDC42-AS1 at present, safety profile remains undefined
06

Interacting drugs

None reported specifically for CDC42-AS1; however, drugs targeting downstream effectors such as CDC42 protein exist, but CDC42-AS1 itself is not a known direct binding target for approved or experimental drugs
07

Biomarkers

Overexpression in certain cancers may serve as a prognostic biomarker
