CDC42 effector protein 1 (CDC42EP1) is a member of the Borg (binder of Rho GTPases) family of effector proteins that interact with the Rho GTPase CDC42. It plays a critical role in regulating actin cytoskeleton dynamics, cell shape, and migratory capacity by binding to CDC42 in a GTP-dependent manner via its CRIB domain. CDC42EP1 is primarily expressed in bone marrow, including bone marrow stromal and endothelial cells, and is secreted into serum. Its functions are mediated through interactions with actin and septin cytoskeletal elements, contributing to processes such as angiogenesis and embryonic cell migration. Functional disruption of CDC42EP1 has been linked to impaired cell migration, abnormal cardiac development, and altered angiogenesis. Recent studies also associate CDC42EP1 with cancer, particularly as a potential driver in oral tongue squamous cell carcinoma, highlighting its influence on cell morphology and tumorigenesis[1][2][3][4].
