CDH3 antisense RNA 1 (CDH3-AS1)

Target
CDH3-AS1
Molecular classification
Long non-coding RNA (lncRNA), Antisense RNA, Noncoding RNA gene
01

Overview

CDH3 antisense RNA 1 (CDH3-AS1) is a long non-coding antisense RNA gene overlapping the CDH3 locus, which encodes P-cadherin, a cell adhesion protein important in tissue integrity. CDH3-AS1 is highly downregulated in melanoma, and its overexpression promotes tumor-suppressive effects by enhancing P-cadherin translation, increasing cell aggregation, and reducing tumor growth in models. Mechanistically, CDH3-AS1 interacts with CDH3 mRNA, modulating its translation via ribosomal recruitment, and represents a broader class of antisense regulatory RNAs that influence protein-coding gene expression, particularly in cancer.
