Cell cycle exit and neuronal differentiation 1 pseudogene (ENSG00000277040; also known as AL359736.2) is a pseudogene sequence in the human genome identified by its similarity to the functional gene involved in cell cycle exit and neuronal differentiation. As a pseudogene, it is a non-functional DNA segment, generated through gene duplication or retrotransposition, which has lost its ability to code for a functional protein product due to disabling mutations (e.g., premature stop codons, frameshifts, loss of regulatory elements)[8]. This locus is annotated as a processed pseudogene and does not encode a receptor or enzyme. While pseudogenes can occasionally exert regulatory effects at the RNA level in cancer or development, such functions are not established for this pseudogene. Most pseudogenes, including this one, do not serve as therapeutic targets, are not associated with disease roles, and are not used as biomarkers[3][8].
