Overview

Cell cycle exit and neuronal differentiation 1 pseudogene 1 (CEND1P1) is a genomic locus classified as a *processed pseudogene*, meaning it derives from retrotransposition of its parent gene but has accumulated mutations (such as frameshifts and stop codons) that prevent production of a functional protein[2][3][5]. It does not perform canonical functions such as signal transduction, enzymatic activity, nor receptor signaling. Although some pseudogenes in other families exert biological functions (for example, through microRNA decoy mechanisms, cf. PTENP1[1][3]), there is no evidence in the scientific literature that CEND1P1 itself has a validated biological activity, role in human disease, or relevance as a drug target[4][5]. Its parent gene CEND1 (not the pseudogene) is involved in neuronal stem cell division processes, but pseudogenes in general are typically considered nonfunctional[2][3][5].
