Cell cycle progression proteins is not a single molecular target but rather refers collectively to a group of regulatory proteins that orchestrate the orderly sequence of events during the eukaryotic cell division cycle. The most prominent members include cyclins, cyclin-dependent kinases (CDKs), their inhibitors, and various checkpoint and mitotic regulatory kinases such as Aurora and Polo-like kinases. These molecules function together to ensure accurate DNA replication, chromosome segregation, and division into daughter cells. Dysregulation—such as overexpression or mutation—of these proteins is a hallmark feature in many cancers due to their central role in controlling proliferation. As such, several have become validated therapeutic targets; notably CDK4/6 inhibitors are now approved for certain breast cancers. However, "cell cycle progression protein" is too broad/vague for use as a canonical drug target name; it should be replaced by specific entities like "Cyclin-dependent kinase 4", "Cyclin D1", etc.
