CIDEB is a member of the CIDE family of proteins, involved in lipid metabolism and apoptosis. It plays a critical role in lipid droplet fusion and regulation, and is essential for HCV entry into hepatocytes. Loss-of-function mutations are protective against liver disease and obesity.
