AVEN, also called Cell death regulator Aven (canonical name), is a protein that functions as an inhibitor of apoptosis and caspase activation. It acts by stabilizing pro-survival proteins (such as Bcl-xL) and inhibiting the function of pro-apoptotic proteins (such as Apaf-1). Aven contains an N-terminal RGG/RG motif which is methylated by protein arginine methyltransferase 1 (PRMT1), facilitating its association with ribosomal complexes and influencing the translation of particular mRNAs involved in cell survival. AVEN is overexpressed in some leukemia types and is critical for cell survival and proliferation in acute leukemia, making it a potential therapeutic target in cancer. Its characteristic domains and interactions implicate it in translational regulation and cell death pathways, but no approved drugs directly target AVEN, nor are there widely used patient biomarkers or safety surveillance concerns specific to AVEN in the clinical setting[1][5][7].
