CDC25A is a dual specificity phosphatase that functions as a key mediator in the cell cycle, particularly in the G1/S transition phase. It acts by dephosphorylating and activating cyclin-dependent kinases (CDKs), such as CDK2 and CDK1, which are crucial for cell cycle progression. CDC25A is considered an oncogene due to its overexpression in various cancers, making it a target for anticancer therapies. It is also involved in DNA damage checkpoints, being degraded in response to DNA damage to halt cell cycle progression.
