Cell division cycle associated 7 pseudogene 2 (CDCA7P2)

Target
CDCA7P2
Molecular classification
Pseudogene, Processed pseudogene (retrogene)
01

Overview

Cell division cycle associated 7 pseudogene 2 (CDCA7P2) is a processed pseudogene located on human chromosome 9. It is a retrocopy (retrogene) derived from the functional CDCA7 gene and does not encode a functional protein. Processed pseudogenes like CDCA7P2 are considered nonfunctional remnants of gene duplication or retrotransposition events and usually do not participate in classical gene functions, serve as therapeutic targets, or directly contribute to disease. While some pseudogenes can act as regulatory elements in certain cases, there is no evidence that CDCA7P2 has such a role[1][2][3][5].

Mechanism of action

Not applicable

03

Biological functions

None established; pseudogenes generally do not encode functional proteins
04

Disease associations

None established for CDCA7P2 itself. However, pseudogenes in general can sometimes affect gene regulation, but no specific disease role is reported for CDCA7P2
