Cell division cycle protein 20 homolog (CDC20)

Target
CDC20
Molecular classification
Cell cycle regulator, E3 ubiquitin ligase cofactor
01

Overview

Cell division cycle protein 20 homolog (CDC20) is an essential regulator of cell division, primarily functioning to activate the anaphase promoting complex/cyclosome (APC/C). This activation leads to the degradation of securin and S/M-phase cyclins, enabling sister chromatid separation and mitotic exit. CDC20 plays a crucial role in microtubule-dependent processes like nuclear movement and chromosome separation. Overexpression of CDC20 has been implicated in various cancers, promoting cell proliferation, inhibiting apoptosis, and enhancing cell migration and invasion. It is considered a promising therapeutic target, and several medicines that inhibit CDC20 have been developed.
