Target intelligence / Profile preview
The cell membrane structure, encompassing the plasma and outer membranes, as well as the cell wall, is targeted by certain antimicrobial drugs to disrupt its integrity and function. This disruption leads to increased permeability, leakage of cellular contents, and ultimately cell death. These agents exploit differences in membrane composition between microbial cells (bacteria or fungi) and mammalian cells to achieve selective toxicity.
