Overview

The cell membrane (plasma membrane) is a dynamic structure that controls the passage of substances, mediates cell signaling, and provides platforms for immune cell receptors (such as T cell receptors, B cell receptors, Fc receptors) to sense and respond to pathogens, tumor cells, and environmental signals[1][4]. The immune microenvironment refers to the spatial and cellular architecture in tissues, most notably the tumor microenvironment, including immune cell types, stromal cells, cytokines, and signaling molecules that orchestrate immune responses, influence cell behavior, and shape disease progression—especially in cancer and inflammation[2][3]. Although both elements are crucial for immune function and are targeted indirectly by therapies and engineered devices (such as nanoparticles coated with cell membranes for drug delivery), there is no single molecule or specific receptor called "cell membranes and immune microenvironment."[1][2][3][4][5]
