Overview

Cell-surface integrins and other adhesion receptors are a diverse group of transmembrane proteins that mediate interactions between cells and their environment, including other cells and the extracellular matrix (ECM) (PMID: 11544177). This category includes integrins, cadherins, selectins, and members of the immunoglobulin superfamily (IgSF). These receptors are critical for maintaining tissue architecture, facilitating immune cell trafficking, and transducing mechanical and chemical signals into the cell (PMID: 12415251). In disease, dysregulation of these molecules contributes to cancer metastasis, chronic inflammation, and thrombotic disorders (PMID: 25108302). Therapeutic strategies often involve monoclonal antibodies or small molecules that block ligand binding to prevent pathological adhesion or signaling (PMID: 28855154).
