Cell therapy is a therapeutic approach in which viable cells are administered to a patient to achieve a medicinal effect, treating or preventing diseases by either replacing damaged tissue/cells or modulating the body's own repair mechanisms. Cells can be sourced from autologous or allogeneic sources and include various types such as hematopoietic stem cells, mesenchymal stem cells, and lymphocytes. The mechanism of action involves either engraftment and replacement of damaged tissue or paracrine/endocrine effects promoting self-healing.
