"Cellular differentiation into tissue-specific lineages" refers to the process by which stem or progenitor cells undergo molecular and phenotypic changes to become specialized cells of particular tissues, such as muscle, bone, fat, or cartilage. This process is orchestrated by a network of extracellular signals, transcription factors, and epigenetic changes, and is fundamental to development, regeneration, and tissue homeostasis in multicellular organisms. While components of these pathways (such as specific growth factors or transcription factors) may serve as drug targets, the process as a whole is not itself a discrete molecular target but a complex, regulated biological phenomenon. Misregulation can contribute to pathological conditions, including development disorders and cancer.
