Overview

Dysregulation of glucose metabolism is a hallmark of numerous diseases, most notably type 2 diabetes, where insulin resistance leads to hyperglycemia, and cancer, where the Warburg effect describes a metabolic shift toward aerobic glycolysis to support rapid proliferation (PubMed/Wikipedia). Pharmacological interventions often target specific nodes within this process, such as glucose transporters (GLUTs) or rate-limiting enzymes like hexokinase, to restore metabolic balance or selectively inhibit pathological cell growth (PubChem).
