Overview

Cellular inflammation pathways encompass the diverse and interconnected molecular and cellular mechanisms that underpin the initiation, maintenance, and resolution of inflammation. These include central signaling cascades such as the nuclear factor kappa-B (NF-κB), mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK), and Janus kinase/signal transducer and activator of transcription (JAK-STAT) pathways, which regulate the induction of inflammatory mediators (cytokines, chemokines), cell recruitment, activation, and apoptosis[2][1][5]. Key cell types involved are monocytes, macrophages, neutrophils, lymphocytes, and other innate and adaptive immune cells[1][3][4]. Dysregulation or persistence of these pathways contributes to numerous pathologies, including chronic inflammatory diseases, cancer, autoimmunity, infections, and age-associated disorders[2][1][6]. As such, while individual components within these pathways may be tractable drug targets, the pathway as a whole is considered a process, not a discrete molecular entity suitable for direct targeted therapy. If a specific molecular component within the pathway is needed (for example, "NF-κB", "IL-6 receptor", "Janus kinase 1"), a more precise request should be made specifying that molecule, as each may have its own detailed data structure.
