Overview
cIAP1 is a multifunctional protein involved in regulating cell death and survival. It acts as an E3 ubiquitin ligase, promoting ubiquitination and degradation of specific substrates. It plays a role in β-cell survival under endoplasmic reticulum stress and is implicated in various cancers due to its influence on cellular proliferation and inhibition of apoptosis. Targeting cIAP1 is being explored for therapeutic intervention using Smac mimetics.
