01

Overview

The cellular machinery involved in mitosis refers to a complex set of molecular structures and proteins that orchestrate the accurate segregation of duplicated chromosomes into two daughter cells during cell division. This machinery includes the mitotic spindle, microtubules, centrosomes/centrioles, kinetochores, motor proteins, cohesin complexes, separase, cyclins, cyclin-dependent kinases (CDKs), and the anaphase-promoting complex/cyclosome (APC/C). It ensures genetic stability and is essential for growth, development, and tissue maintenance in eukaryotic organisms. Errors in this machinery can lead to genomic instability and diseases such as cancer. Many anti-cancer drugs target components or regulators within this machinery.
