Cellular membrane phospholipid biosynthesis refers to the set of enzymatic pathways responsible for producing phospholipids, which are the primary structural components of all biological membranes. These processes occur mainly in the endoplasmic reticulum (ER), mitochondria, and Golgi apparatus in eukaryotic cells. The resulting phospholipids form bilayer structures that provide membrane integrity and participate in diverse cellular functions such as signaling, trafficking, cell growth, apoptosis, and protein regulation. Abnormalities can lead to diseases involving defective signaling, impaired vesicle transport, neurodegeneration, metabolic syndromes, or immune dysfunctions due to altered lipid homeostasis.
