Central nervous system pathways controlling skeletal muscle encompass a complex network of descending tracts, primarily the corticospinal and corticobulbar tracts, that originate in the brain and synapse with lower motor neurons in the spinal cord and brainstem. These pathways enable voluntary movement through the release of acetylcholine at the neuromuscular junction, leading to muscle fiber contraction. Disruption of these pathways can result in various motor disorders.
