Centrobin (CNTROB) is a centrosomal protein asymmetrically localized to daughter centrioles and is essential for proper centriole duplication, spindle assembly, and cytokinesis in human cells[3][5]. It also interacts with BRCA2 and plays a role in the cellular response to DNA damage[4][5]. Centrobin regulates the temporal and spatial aspects of centriole maturation, serving as a safeguard to ensure that centrioles mature and install distal appendages at the proper time in the cell cycle[2]. It is required for correct microtubule organization and helps determine functional differences between mother and daughter centrioles. Mutations in CNTROB are associated with human diseases including spermatogenic failure and Mulibrey nanism[5]. Studies in both human and model organisms indicate its function is critical for the regulation of cilia formation and centrosome integrity[1][2][3].
