CENPK
Molecular classification
Other (Component of the centromeric complex; not a receptor, enzyme, or transporter)
01

Overview

Centromere protein K (CENPK) is a protein component of the centromeric complex, required for the assembly and function of the kinetochore, which attaches spindle microtubules to chromosomes during mitosis. Through coordinating with other centromeric proteins, CENPK ensures accurate chromosome segregation, mitotic progression, and cell proliferation. Dysregulation or overexpression of CENPK is linked to carcinogenesis in various cancers, and knockout models have shown that its loss leads to cell-cycle arrest and cell death, emphasizing its critical cellular role[1][3][4].
