Centromere protein P (CENPP)

Target
CENPP
Molecular classification
Constitutive centromere-associated network (CCAN) protein, Centromere-associated protein, Kinetochore assembly factor
01

Overview

Centromere protein P (CENPP) is a component of the centromere-associated protein complex required for the recruitment and assembly of the kinetochore, a structure fundamental for accurate chromosome segregation during mitosis and cell division. CENPP functions as part of the CCAN (constitutive centromere-associated network), interacting with other centromere proteins (such as CENPH and CENPI) to facilitate the targeting of CENPA, a centromere-specific histone variant essential for centromere identity and mitotic progression. Defects or variation in CENPP are associated with rare hereditary conditions such as sensorineural deafness and degenerative disc disease but have not been characterized as drivers of cancer or therapeutic targets in clinical studies to date.
