Centromere protein R (ITGB3BP) is a transcriptional co-regulator that can act as both a coactivator and corepressor for nuclear receptors, such as retinoid X receptors, thyroid hormone receptors, and estrogen receptor alpha, while repressing NF-kappaB-dependent signaling. It plays a role in apoptosis in breast cancer cells through a caspase-2 mediated pathway and participates in mitotic progression and chromosome segregation by being recruited to centromeres as part of the CENP-NAC complex[1][2][7]. Alternative splicing results in multiple isoforms with variable functions. Diseases associated with ITGB3BP include primary autosomal recessive microcephaly and breast cancer[1].
