Centromere protein U pseudogene 2 (CENPUP2) is a noncoding DNA sequence in humans with high similarity to the functional "MLF1 interacting protein" gene (CENPU), but contains mutations or other changes preventing the production of functional centromere protein U. Pseudogenes are evolutionarily remnants derived from active genes and typically do not have a direct biological function but can sometimes play a role in gene regulation at the RNA level.
