Centrosomal protein 112 (CEP112) is a coiled-coil domain-containing protein primarily localized to the centrosome, as well as to RNA granules and other cellular structures, where it plays crucial roles in the organization of centrosomal and ciliary architecture, maintenance of genome stability, and post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression, especially during spermatogenesis. CEP112 physically interacts with translation regulators and forms condensates that sequester mRNAs required for sperm maturation, with mutations or disruption leading to morphological sperm defects and male infertility. Additionally, CEP112 has been implicated in the regulation of gene expression in neurons (gamma-aminobutyric acid A receptor surface regulation), and its epigenetic alterations may serve as cancer biomarkers, notably in colorectal cancer with risk of liver metastasis.\n\nKey points: CEP112 is a structural and regulatory protein, not classically categorized as a therapeutic target, receptor, enzyme, or transporter; it is most notable for roles in fertility and genomic stability.
