Centrosomal protein 192, pseudogene (ENSG00000251623) is a nonfunctional genomic DNA segment that shares sequence homology with the functional centrosomal protein 192 (CEP192) gene but does not code for a protein product. Pseudogenes like this one arise from duplication or retrotransposition events and may retain significant sequence similarity to their parental gene, but with disablements such as frameshifts or premature stop codons preventing translation into a functional protein. While the parent gene, CEP192, encodes a protein involved in centrosome maturation and spindle assembly, this pseudogene does not contribute to those functions. Pseudogenes are not considered therapeutic or diagnostic targets but may sometimes be transcribed at low levels or cause technical complications in genetic studies due to sequence similarity with their parent gene.
