Overview

Centrosomal protein 76 (CEP76) is a centriolar protein that interacts with proteins such as CP110 and Cep97 and is localized to the centrosome. Its principal role is to serve as a negative regulator of centrosome duplication by ensuring that centriole duplication occurs only once per cell cycle. CEP76 expression is low in the G1 phase, increases in the S and G2 phases, and is tightly regulated at the post-translational level by phosphorylation. Loss of CEP76 function can lead to centriole overduplication and is observed to affect only specific cell types, such as certain cancer cells. CEP76 involvement has been observed in cancer and some neurodegenerative disorders, although no direct drug interactions or therapeutic targeting have been reported for this protein to date[1][2][3][4].
