Overview

Centrosomal protein of 70 kDa (CEP70) is a centrosome-associated protein essential for the regulation of microtubule dynamics and mitotic spindle organization during cell division[3][4][5]. CEP70 localizes to the centrosome throughout the cell cycle by binding γ-tubulin and other centrosomal proteins and plays a critical role in ensuring proper spindle formation and chromosome segregation[1][2][3]. It is essential for proper cilium assembly and the stability and extension of microtubules[2][5]. In the testis, CEP70 is highly expressed during meiosis and spermatogenesis, and knockout studies in mice demonstrate its indispensability for acrosome biogenesis and sperm flagella formation, with loss of function causing male infertility due to abnormal spermatogenesis and germ-cell apoptosis[2]. Overexpression or dysregulation of CEP70 has been linked to cancer, particularly pancreatic cancer, where it may promote tumorigenesis by inducing centrosomal defects, chromosomal instability, and altered mitotic spindle dynamics[1]. CEP70 is therefore being explored as both a potential biomarker and therapeutic target in oncology and reproductive medicine[1][2][5].
