Recent studies have shown its upregulation in severe COVID-19 and severe pneumonia, with functions that may include gene regulation via miRNA sponging—particularly the downregulation of hsa-miR-4257 and upregulation of IL11RA mRNA, potentially amplifying pro-inflammatory cytokine responses during viral infection[2][7]. CEP192-DT is not a therapeutic target in the classical sense but is under investigation for diagnostic and prognostic use. Its participation has also been noted in lung cancer biology, further endorsing its utility as a molecular disease marker rather than a traditional druggable protein or receptor[6][7].
