Target intelligence / Profile preview
Ceramic Hydroxyapatite XT (CHT XT) is a specialized chromatography media used in the downstream processing and purification of various biomolecules, such as monoclonal antibodies, vaccines, and gene therapy vectors (Bio-Rad Laboratories, 2023). It is a chemically pure, spherical form of calcium phosphate [Ca10(PO4)6(OH)2] that combines two distinct modes of interaction: cation exchange through negatively charged phosphate sites and metal affinity through positively charged calcium sites (Gagnon, P., 2009, Methods in Molecular Biology). Unlike biological targets like receptors or enzymes, CHT XT serves as a tool in biomanufacturing to remove impurities such as aggregates, host cell proteins, and DNA from therapeutic products. The 'XT' (Extended Term) formulation is specifically engineered for high physical and chemical stability, allowing for increased longevity and resistance to acidic conditions compared to traditional hydroxyapatite (Gorbunoff, M. J., 1984, Analytical Biochemistry). While it is essential for producing safe and effective therapeutics, it does not possess a biological function within the human body and is not a target for drug action.
Mixed-mode chromatography involving cation exchange via phosphate groups (P-sites) and metal affinity via calcium sites (C-sites).
