Ceramic surface

01

Overview

Ceramic surface refers to the external boundary or interface of ceramic materials—inorganic compounds composed of elements like aluminum, silicon, zirconium, and oxygen. It is a physical material property, not a biological molecule, protein, enzyme, or receptor. Therefore, it is not a suitable therapeutic target. Therapeutic targets are typically proteins, receptors, enzymes, ion channels, or other biomolecules that can be modulated by drugs to treat disease. A ceramic surface lacks the molecular mechanisms necessary for drug binding or modulation. While ceramics are used in biomedical applications, the relevant targets would be the biological molecules that interact with ceramic surfaces, rather than the surface itself.
