Overview

CERS2-AS1 (CERS2 antisense RNA 1) is a long non-coding RNA gene located antisense to the CERS2 gene. It is transcribed as RNA but does not encode a protein and has not, as of now, been described as a therapeutic target, biomarker, or molecule with an established molecular function or disease association in the biomedical literature or major curated databases[3]. Its potential regulatory or pathophysiological functions remain to be determined. Key clarifications: CERS2-AS1 is distinct from CERS2, the gene encoding ceramide synthase 2, which is an enzyme and does have established roles in ceramide metabolism, cancer, cardiovascular, and metabolic diseases[1][5][7].
