In clinical conditions such as cerumen impaction or otitis externa, these materials can cause hearing loss, pain, or serve as a medium for bacterial and fungal growth. Pharmacological targeting of these surfaces involves the use of cerumenolytic agents like carbamide peroxide or surfactants, which act by softening, emulsifying, or oxidizing the debris to facilitate its clearance [3]. These agents do not interact with a specific molecular receptor but rather alter the physical integrity of the debris matrix to restore canal patency or improve the efficacy of topical antibiotics.

Mechanism of action
