Cervical Mucus Secretion

Molecular classification
Biological Fluid, Mucin, Glycoprotein mixture
01

Overview

Cervical mucus secretion is the production and release of fluid by glands in/around the cervix, consisting of mucin glycoproteins and an aqueous phase containing various soluble components. It regulates sperm transport, acts as a pathogen barrier, and its characteristics change throughout the menstrual cycle based on hormone levels (estrogen and progesterone). Abnormalities can be linked to infertility or disease.
