CFAP20DC antisense RNA 1 (CFAP20DC-AS1)

Target
CFAP20DC-AS1
Molecular classification
Long non-coding RNA (lncRNA), Antisense RNA
01

Overview

CFAP20DC antisense RNA 1 is a long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) transcribed from the antisense strand of the CFAP20DC gene (formerly C3orf67). Unlike protein-coding receptors or enzymes, lncRNAs like CFAP20DC-AS1 do not code for proteins but can regulate gene expression at transcriptional and post-transcriptional levels. CFAP20DC-AS1 has been identified as differentially expressed in various tissues, including the brain regions of Alzheimer’s disease patients, where its altered expression may be involved in neurodegenerative processes[4]. It has also been studied in cancer, where it participates as part of competing endogenous RNA (ceRNA) networks influencing apoptosis[6]. There are currently no approved drugs targeting CFAP20DC-AS1 directly, and its primary significance lies in its regulatory function and possible utility as a disease-related marker rather than as a classical therapeutic target. This molecule is not considered a classic receptor, enzyme, transporter, or direct therapeutic target, and its action is primarily through RNA-level regulation[1][3][6].
